Returning to the boxing dens, subway stations, and back alleys he shot in his earlier career as a photographer, Kubrick’s simple but effective film noir follows a struggling New York boxer (Jamie Smith), whose life is imperiled when he protects a nightclub dancer (Irene Kane) from her gangster boss.
