Kubrick in Black & White

Kubrick set out to film a gritty, realistic story of nuclear destruction. What resulted was this nightmarish and very funny, jet-black comedy in which a paranoid American general (Sterling Hayden) orders a nuclear attack on Russia. Peter Sellers plays three of the characters struggling to stop—or exploit—Armageddon. His rogues’ gallery of costars includes George C. Scott, Slim Pickens, Keenan Wynn, and James Earl Jones. Nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. (1964, 95 min, 35mm)
