Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) Chief of Civic Engagement Jonathan Moscone has spent his storied career defining new models for how arts organizations can participate in the civic life of their community. During his tenure at YBCA, he has created a Civic Engagement practice rooted in community advocacy and coalition building, with the goal of creating lasting and meaningful change in our City. Through programs like youth fellowships, artist residencies in San Francisco public schools, iconic public art installations, a long-term partnership with the city of San Francisco Planning Department, and even a ballot measure aimed at restoring city funding for the arts & homeless family services, Jonathan has pushed YBCA’s mission squarely into the public realm. Prior to joining YBCA in 2015, Jonathan was the longtime artistic director of the pioneering California Shakespeare Theater. He serves on several boards, including the Edible Schoolyard Project, Californians for the Arts/California Arts Advocates, and the Homeless Prenatal Program.
