CARGO 200

In this shocking new film, Perestroika is on the way, the Soviet Era is grinding to an end, and the USSR is trapped in Afghanistan. The daughter of a Communist Party Secretary disappears after having a few too many vodkas. As the investigators attempt to solve the crime, the film reveals how a corrupt political system can lead to a corrupt citizenry, and how a nightmare of bureaucratic hell can poison even the innocent. Part crime story, part horror film, and all political allegory, Cargo 200 is an extreme work (it has drawn comparisons to Pasolini’s Salò) and a harsh indictment of the rulers of the former Soviet Union. (2007, 89 min, 35mm)
