Kraft presents the first chapters of her newest work at CounterPULSE before it premieres in 2009–10 at YBCA. Kraft is known for her distinctive hybrid of experimental theatre, non-linear narrative and multi-media. HyperREAL investigates the profoundly ambivalent & conflicted ways we inhabit our bodies, our relationships and our world, and the paradox of physical, psychological and spiritual dislocation—and transcendence—in the digital age. How do we determine what is ‘real’ and ‘true’ in a world where more interactions and experiences are mediated through virtual and imagined worlds, and where even the basis of our “actual” physical experience can be doubted? What is the difference between embodied experience and imagined or simulated experience? Interactive discussions after each show offer audiences a “behind the scenes view” into the creative process.
Commissioned by COUNTERPULSE, YBCA and Magic Theatre/Z Space New Works Initiative.

DDP4 explores how Bay Area artists' work integrates media and
performance in unique ways, creating hybrid forms, manipulating,
mutating, and extending the technologies being created in our own
backyard. Co-curators Jessica Robinson (Counter PULSE director) and DDP
organizer and local choreographer Mary Armentrout talk with hybrid
dance/theater artists Sara Kraft, David Szlaza and Sheldon Smith and
Lisa Wymore of Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts.
