Q&A with Big Art Group Artistic Director Caden Manson following the Fri, Apr 24 performance
"[Big Art Group] continues to deliver on its promise to aggressively attack the boundaries of theatre in a most unusual way—with intelligence, talent, humor and a refreshing lack of pretentiousness." — Next Magazine
"[Big Art Group] repurposes, subverts, re-imagines, and spits back out all the jingles, energy drinks, web obsessions, slang, logos, paranoia, newspeak, etc., in such a colorful, grotesque, gorgeous ritual, that the effect is cathartic and utterly energizing." — NYTheatre.com

YBCA presents the Bay Area premiere of New York-based Big Art Group, a company that uses media language to push the narrative boundaries of performance, film and visual art. S.O.S. utilizes ten performers and a video matrix that inhabit a multi-camera, multi-screen installation. Inspired by the primal themes of the symphony/ballet Rite of Spring, Big Art Group creates its own contemporary rite of spring, using ordinary rituals of renewal that are abstracted and refracted though video. As these common actions morph into metaphors of war and environmental breakdown, a larger discussion emerges of sustainability and its daily practices. S.O.S. explores futureness, survivalism, revolution, ritual and sacrifice with this question in mind: “Can sacrifice create a new beginning?”
