Come hear seminal interdisciplinary performance artist Ralph Lemon
discuss his plans and see footage from the research and development of
a groundbreaking new multi-media performance and installation, How Can You Stay in the House All Day and Not Go Anywhere,
which will premiere at YBCA this October. Deeply influenced by Ralph's
eight-year collaboration with Walter Carter (a 103-year-old former
sharecropper who has lived his entire life in Little Yazoo City,
Mississippi), his wife Edna and other members of his community, the
project merges media, visual art, movement research, text, sound and
Andrei Tarkovsky's critically acclaimed 1972 science-fiction film, Solaris.
Through this extraordinary new project, Lemon explores the
possibilities of intercultural collaboration and both the power and
unreliability of accepted history and memorial.
