Curator: This exhibition is
organized by Julio César Morales, Adjunct Curator of Visual
Arts at YBCA.
Videos:
Ian Breakwell, Feb 19–Apr 4
The first in a series of 3 video projects, curated by Pérez, is Ian
Breakwell’s Nine Jokes (1971), a series of very short films, running
from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Films include The Art World Erupts,
Container, Gulp, Yes/No, Sleep, Pea, The Greatest Story Ever Told,
Pastorale and Feel. This series of one-line jokes subtly digs at the
seriousness of some contemporary conceptual art of the 1970s. Humor, in all shades including the very darkest, is an integral part of Breakwell’s work.
Pablo Lobato, Apr 7–May 2
Autumn, when the days get shorter and the leaves fall from the trees, naturally serves as a metaphor of the final period of the cycle of life—old age. Outono (Autumn) is a short film focusing on a particular site: a personal, intimate space filtered through the contemplative gaze of a guest who nobody invited, a guest without a host, a wandering, solitary, mysterious figure who witnesses events taking place over the course of slightly more than 24 hours.
DF Mix, May 7–Jun 20
A collection of experimental videos by Mexico City-based artists
influenced by the urban landscape.
