FLicKeR
BY NIK SHEEHAN
Director Nik Sheehan in person

Poet, artist and mystic Brion Gysin believed that the seemingly simple dream machine he created would revolutionize human consciousness. Director Nik Sheehan takes us on a journey into Gysin’s life—his art, his complex ideas and his friendships with some of the 20th century's key counterculture figures. Features luminaries like William S. Burroughs (in archival footage), Marianne Faithfull, Genesis P-Orridge of Psychic TV, Iggy Pop, Kenneth Anger and DJ Spooky, FLicKeR is a hypnotic documentary.
(2008, 72 min, digital video)

GHOST IN THE SHELL II: INNOCENCE
BY MAMORU OSHI

Even if you hate anime, you will be overwhelmed by the breathtaking visual and spiritual experience that is Ghost in the Shell II. It is 2032 and humans, animals and machines have intermingled to such an extent that distinctions among life forms have become almost arbitrary. Bato is a cyborg detective with a man-made body but with a human brain, who is investigating the case of a female robot who killed her owner.

DOG STAR MAN
BY STAN BRAKHAGE

Rarely screened yet widely recognized as one of the key works of experimental film, Dog Star Man is a multilayered, psychedelic epic about a man climbing a snowy mountain. Deeply personal in inspiration, Dog Star Man has a cosmic scope and a hero of mythic proportions, comparable to other twentieth century modernist classics such as James Joyce's Ulysses.
(1961–64, 16mm, 78 min, silent)

LEGENDARY LIGHT SHOWS

Far from hippy nostalgia, this is a program of rarely-seen, stunning film and video by legendary light show artists from San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and London. The program showcases light, color and liquid projections layered with film and handmade slides, from multimedia shows originally performed live at rock concerts with the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and many others.
(1966-1970, 70 min, 16mm and digital video)
Presented in association with Center for Visual Music

LE LIT DE LA VIERGE (THE VIRGIN’S BED)
BY PHILIPPE GARREL

A shipping error prevented us from showing Philippe Garrrel’s extraordinary film in its intended format for a screening this past May, so we’ve rescheduled it. Le Lit de la Vierge is a minimalist, psychedelic retelling of the Christ story, shot in Brittany, Morocco and Rome under the influence of LSD and in stunning black-and-white Cinemascope. Don’t miss it.
(1968, 114 min, 35mm)
