Etiquette is a half-hour participatory performance experience for two people, conceived by renowned UK-based art collective Rotozaza, who coined the term "Autoteatro," a new performance genre whereby audience members perform the piece themselves, for each other. With instructions about what to say and do—violà, the performer becomes the audience!

Hailed as "one of the most adventurous artists working today" (Time Out New York), renowned interdisciplinary artist Ralph Lemon returns to YBCA with a groundbreaking multimedia project of epic – and intimate—proportions. Through live performance, a multimedia installation, film, video and an exhibition of objects, How Can You Stay in the House All Day and Not Go Anywhere? explores human connection, loss, and the elusive but ever-compelling possibility of grace.

This fall, YBCA and Kronos Quartet embark on a multi-year partnership to explore the continuing evolution of this extraordinary musical powerhouse. Since they first shocked the classical music world in the early 1970s with their string quartet versions of rock classics like Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze, Kronos has gone on to become one of the most diverse, best-known and most influential contemporary string quartets in the world.

YBCA and San Francisco Performances are honored to celebrate the return of Japan's famed Butoh troupe, Sankai Juku, to the Bay Area, performing one of the company's signature works, Hibiki – Resonance from Far Away… Performed in a dream landscape with whirling costumes, the company of six male dancers, heads shaven and bodies painted white from top to toe, weave meticulous, hypnotic movement with breathtaking large-scale staging to create a truly hypnotic dance experience.

The third and final installment of her (Cynthia Hopkins) acclaimed Accidental Trilogy, The Success of Failure (or, The Failure of Success) is an epic folk tale and musical journey set in the far distant future, depicting the saga of a secret mission to save the universe. Blending fact and fantasy, Hopkins wraps herself inside this outrageous sci-fi fairy tale to reveal the real story about the mother she lost, her battle with addiction and her own heroic survival.
