transPOP: Korea Vietnam Remix — Opening Night Party

YBCA presents Enigmas and Eternity: The Films of Alain Robbe-Grillet • Dec 4–18, 2008
All New 35mm Prints. Both famous and obscure, Alain Robbe-Grillet (who died in February) was a profoundly unique French filmmaker and postmodern novelist. We present four of his directorial efforts (plus Marienbad), all of them essentially impossible to view in the US until now.

Asian Art Museum 23rd Annual Japanese New Year Bell Ringing Ceremony

Numbered tickets to ring the bell distributed at 10 am, one to each family/group; first come, first served.
Bring your loved ones to the Asian Art Museum to literally "ring in" the New Year. Based on the Buddhist custom of striking a temple bell 108 times on New Year's Eve to wipe away the ill luck of the past year, tolling the 2100-lb., 16th c. Japanese bronze bell welcomes the start of a joyous New Year. Then check out the extraordinary exhibition Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures from the National Museum, Kabul. See what the New York Times called "at once revelatory and heart-rending..."
